There is something wonderfully extravagant about putting a supercomputer on a desk that previously struggled to accommodate a stapler. Before rearranging the furniture, use ChatGPT to turn Meta's Muse Spark Open announcement into a requirements check. The interesting question is whether local AI solves your particular problem.
In its 15 October 2026 announcement, Meta says Muse Spark Open can run on two M5 Ultra Mac Studios. It also offers downloadable weights and hosted access. Those are different deployment choices, not interchangeable promises of privacy or convenience.
Give the machine a job before giving it a room
Start with one recurring task. Perhaps your team classifies support requests, or checks documents against an internal policy. Write down what a correct result looks like and how long a human currently spends checking it. Otherwise you are purchasing a very distinguished paperweight with ventilation.

Using the supplied model documentation and my workload description, draft a local-versus-hosted evaluation plan. Separate documented facts from assumptions. Flag missing hardware, licence and data-flow information. Propose ten representative tests and a scoring rubric. Do not infer privacy from the word local or invent prices.
Give ChatGPT the actual documents, then check its references. Run the proposed tests on the candidate system itself. Asking one model whether another is brilliant is rather like asking a sommelier to review a wine by inspecting the cork.
Keep sensitive samples out of an unapproved service. Begin with synthetic examples and verify the licence for your intended use.
The sensible purchase is the system that earns its place. The desk can wait.
