Your Data Centre Needs Better Answers Than a Brochure

A charming brochure can make almost anything look neighbourly. Even a vast building full of computers that never sleep. Use ChatGPT to turn a data-centre announcement into specific, answerable questions before deciding whether the proposal deserves applause.

The Wall Street Journal reported on 16 October 2026 that AI infrastructure companies are sharing plans earlier to win local support. Google's own Lea County announcement, published in September, says it is exploring a possible project and that important details remain outstanding.

Make reassurance measurable

The useful distinction is between an aspiration and a commitment someone can verify. Both can sound lovely over coffee. Only one is much use when the coffee machine stops working because nobody checked the capacity.

Topic

A useful question

Water

What withdrawal and consumption estimates apply in dry conditions?

Electricity

What demand is expected, and who funds the required upgrades?

Employment

How many permanent roles are forecast separately from construction jobs?

Accountability

Who publishes performance data, and how are complaints handled?

Ask ChatGPT to read like a sceptical neighbour

Analyse these supplied public project documents. Build a claim-and-evidence table with a source reference for every entry. Distinguish proposals from binding commitments and identify unanswered questions. Draft a short, civil submission asking for measurable answers. Do not invent local water or electricity figures.

Supply the actual planning documents when available, not merely the announcement. Ask the model to distinguish water withdrawn from water consumed, and forecasts from measured results. Check every number against the original page before sharing the output.

This is not a machine that decides whether a development should proceed. It is a useful assistant for making a long document less impenetrable. Local evidence and accountable human decisions still do the serious work.

An AI future worth building should be able to survive a well-informed question from the person next door.
